Ten Days of Mu

We all play roles. Whether defined by family, friends, work or play, we all wear masks and use props to help us fulfill these roles. In fact, we spend so much time in these roles that we forget who the actor or actress really is. Well, what happens when the masks and all of the props are taken away? I don’t know but I’m about to find out …
Tomorrow, I’ll be joining a 10 day Vipassana meditation retreat. To help you focus on the inner life, the rules are strict with no talking, no internet, no TV, no books, no meat, no chocolate, no physical exercise, no skimpy tops … and the schedule is also strict with a 4 a.m. wake-up bell and ten hours of meditation every day.
I’m curious, interested and a little bit unsettled by the whole idea of it. Ten days of just sitting. How many times in life do you get the opportunity to do absolutely nothing for ten days? It will either be very frustrating or enlightening. I’ll have to get back to you on that one.
Thanks to Martha and Henry for the great photo …
